Sound Quality Breakdown

Here at A Ran Music Service, we are sound technicians as well as DJs, so sound quality is of the utmost importance to us.

So, what exactly defines sound quality?  It’s the ability to control frequencies in order to create the best overall sound.  Let’s start with some lingo.

• Lows– the bass notes in the song. In some instances, a subwoffer may be used.
• Subwoffer- a loudspeaker unit used to imitate very low bass frequencies.
• Mids– the sounds in between the highs and the lows that comprise most of the song.
• Highs– the high frequencies, such as the rides/hi-hat on the drums, the upper notes of female vocals, or a higher-pitched whistle.

Have you ever been to an event where the music is rumbling?  The problem could be distortion from the subwoffer.  It’s important to know how to control the sound frequencies and properly power the sound equipment to avoid this problem.

Sometimes sound can sound “thin”- as if something is missing or the song has suddenly lost its energy.  This can be due to not having enough mid frequencies in your mix.

Hear that high squeal or ear-piercing note?  The highs need to be adjusted.

Sound quality can make or break an event because, quite frankly, bad sound quality is very disruptive.  When it comes to music entertainment, be sure to seek trained professionals.
